On February 28, I brought my recently adopted 8-month-old puppy to Petco for her first vet exam and vaccinations. I informed staff at check-in that she had never been vaccinated and had not yet received her rabies shot.
They took my dog to the back for the exam without asking me to accompany her. Since this was her first vet visit, she was understandably scared. I later learned they attempted to place a muzzle on her, and during that process, they reported that she “bit” a vet assistant.
Given that I had clearly stated she had not received her rabies vaccine, I was surprised that extra precautions were not taken. My puppy weighs only 7 pounds, and from what I was later told at the humane society, the “bite” was not serious and amounted to a tooth scrape.
After the incident, the manager informed me they could not continue the exam and that they were required to report the bite to animal control. Later that day, I received a call from a police officer stating my dog had to be quarantined for 10 days at the humane society. This was mandatory and immediate.
I had to surrender my anxious puppy that same day before closing. Seeing her placed in a cage for quarantine was heartbreaking. I asked about visiting her and was told visits were not allowed. I was later informed there would be a $400 quarantine fee.
While I understand that safety protocols exist, this experience was incredibly distressing. I wish more preventative measures had been taken, especially knowing she was unvaccinated and new to veterinary care. Instead of feeling supported during my dog’s first appointment, I left feeling overwhelmed and heartbroken.
I’m sharing this so other pet parents are aware that situations like this can happen and to encourage careful consideration when choosing a veterinary provider.

Great experience. I will return. I got a refund for my online order so I went and spent more than my refund to get local fish. So happy with my order. Thank you.

Great Customer Service. I was looking for a particular brand name product and was shown right to it. Was surprised of this as most C.S. team members don't know what a product is unless it is right under their noses. So great job in hiring and training of your C.S. team members! Thank you.

This store is literally always out of stock of anything to do with fish tank or aquarium supplies and has a very small selection of hide outs for tanks. I've tried shopping here 3 separate times and have always had to go elsewhere due to them being out of stock of things.
